About US

The National Society Of Black Engineers was founded in 1975 at Purdue University by John Logan Edward Coleman, George Smith, Stanley Kirtley, Brian Harris, and Anthony Harris, also known as "The Chicago Six". It was established to help improve the recruitment and retention of black engineering students. NSBE offers academic excellence programs, scholarships, leadership training, professional development, social events, and access to internships. There are over 2000 elected leadership positions, 12 regional conferences and an annual convention to shape and support our community. General body members who attend NSBE regional conferences and Annual National Convention may receive numerous networking opportunities, professional development seminars, workshops, and presentations, and even a chance to land a summer internship, co-op or full time position upon graduation.
